Smart Group Shot

Smart Group Shot makes it easy to capture great group shots with just one attempt. Five images are captured in quick succession with a single press of the camera button. Advanced algorithms then detect the faces, and the ‘best’ face for each person is automatically selected and the images combined into a single ‘best’ shot. You can select an alternative face for each detected face, which is useful if, for example, you’d like to have everyone looking at each other.

Action Shot

Action Shot allows you to capture action and movement shots with significantly improved shooting speed or as a burst of shots. But it’s when you review burst images that the fun really starts: a new control mechanism makes it easy to find the images you’re looking for. As you slide your finger back and forth, the images are displayed one on top of one another as if you were controlling the action, so you can try out sequences and play them back.

Self-timer

Panorama

Capture beautiful wide landscapes more easily. The new UI guides you as you move your phone, helping you to capture beautiful panoramas with precise alignment. The finished panoramas can be so smooth that you’ll wonder where the joins are.

Nokia makes internet access faster and easier with new browser for Series 40 devices

- Nokia Browser 2.0 delivers enhanced speeds and a new user interface for a faster, better way to explore the web
- Powered by cloud-based servers, it delivers accelerated browsing and reduces data consumption by up to 90%, without compromising the internet experience
- Web apps from the expanding catalog are easier than ever to explore and install right in the browser
Espoo, Finland - Nokia has today announced the availability of Nokia Browser 2.0, a major update dedicated to Nokia Series 40 devices. The new version reduces data consumption by up to 90%, meaning that consumers can enjoy faster and cheaper internet access. Web sites load up to three times faster in comparison to devices without cloud-accelerated browsing and consumers will also benefit from a number of other enhanced capabilities.
From the first look, consumers are easily able to discover new web content and enjoy one-click access to top, local sites via the Nokia Browser's inviting and intuitive start page. We have optimized the browser to enable users to easily stay connected with friends and family at the touch of a button as well as to share files and links across social networks. The new and improved Download Manager helps consumers to manage external content easily, saving music, video or pictures on a memory card, while surfing the internet.
The browser includes a revamped, modern user experience that makes it simple to find, install and use interesting web apps that offer a richer, more desktop-like internet experience. Launched in mid-2011, the Nokia Browser is the first browser of its kind to support web apps, and now boasts a catalogue of more than 10,000 of the latest apps. Several publishers have experienced over a million downloads in a matter of months, demonstrating strong consumer demand.
With this update, developers will find new monetization capabilities, more extensive user interface options for their web apps and productivity improvements for Nokia Web Tools so they can continue delivering engaging, connected experiences to the 'Next Billion' consumers.
The update supports all forms of Series 40: Touch, QWERTY and Non-Touch, including the Nokia Asha range, as well as popular devices such as the Nokia C3-00, Nokia C2-03 and Nokia X3-02. The update will be pre-loaded on some current and all future Nokia Series 40 devices, while for existing users the update arrives as a free, optional over-the-air download. New users can download it from the Nokia Store. The browser is available in 87 languages in over 200 countries and territories.
Nokia Browser 2.0 makes use of cloud-based servers which adapt standard web pages so that they perform better on Nokia Series 40 devices. Since web pages are compressed and cached in the cloud, end users can access web sites in a manner which is faster and requires significantly less data to be sent over their mobile network. For pay-per-use contracts this will result in more cost-effective browsing, while users on an operator data plan will be able to do more web surfing without exceeding their monthly usage limits.
"With our new version, we've created a newer, faster, better browsing experience. Nokia accelerates the journey to mobile internet with the introduction of Asha Touch device range

Fun, colorful range of touch screen phones will bring fast mobile web browsing, social networks and gaming to millions
Bangkok, Thailand - Nokia has today taken another step towards connecting the next billion consumers by unveiling the Asha Touch family of mobile devices, taking the full touch experience to new price points. The three new phone models - the Nokia Asha 305, Nokia Asha 306 and Nokia Asha 311 - further expand the successful Asha family, first introduced in October 2011. Today, there are 10 Asha devices available in more than 130 markets, providing young, social consumers with a choice of phones to match their own lifestyle.
These latest phones have been designed to provide an incredibly rich, smartphone-like experience to consumers who want to be set free from excessive data consumption costs and short battery life. The Nokia Asha 305, Asha 306 and Asha 311 offer a new, fully re-designed touch user interface, combining the proven ease-of-use from Nokia's heritage with digital design innovations specifically fit for the purpose.
The beautifully crafted Nokia Asha 311 is a fast and fluid 3.5G capacitive touchscreen device, powered by a 1GHz processor to provide a great internet experience. The bright and edgy Nokia Asha 305 is a fun and affordable phone, featuring the exclusive Easy Swap dual SIM. Its sister, the Nokia Asha 306, is a single SIM model, and becomes Nokia's most affordable Wi-Fi handset to date.
"By introducing the Asha Touch phones to the market, we're accelerating our commitment to connect the next billion consumers," said Mary T. McDowell, Nokia's executive vice president for Mobile Phones. "These phones deliver on what young, urban people value most -- a great-looking device; and an intuitive and affordable experience for connecting to the internet, to their friends, and to a world of entertainment, web apps and content."
Great for fast, affordable mobile internet and gaming entertainmentThe new devices take full advantage of the Nokia Browser 2.0, a major recent update which uses Nokia's cloud technology to reduce data consumption by up to 90%, meaning that consumers can enjoy faster and cheaper internet access. Web sites load up to three times faster in comparison to devices without cloud-accelerated browsing, making it simple for users to find and select from more than 10,000 web apps available for download. They deliver a richer and more interactive consumer experience whilst using less data than a stand-alone internet connected app.
Consumers can easily stay connected with friends and family at the touch of a button as well as share files and links across their social networks. Furthermore, the Nokia Browser's Download Manager feature helps consumers to manage external content easily, saving music, video or pictures on a memory card, while surfing the internet.
The Asha family is also getting positive support from developers and consumers. Nokia Store has just broken the 5 billion downloads landmark. From January to April, 42% of all content downloaded from Nokia Store was delivered to Asha and other Nokia devices based on the Java ecosystem. Just one year ago, that number was 10%. Also, there are 410 Nokia developers with apps which have achieved more than 1 million downloads. India Games and Pico Brothers just passed 100 million.
As well as providing a great, social online experience, the Nokia Asha 305, Asha 306 and Asha 311 have been created with entertainment in mind. All users will receive an exclusive gift of 40 EA games to download for free* and keep forever. These games range across action, arcade and sports, and include titles such as Tetris®, Bejeweled®, Need for Speed(TM) The Run and EA SPORTS(TM) FIFA 12. The Nokia Asha 311 also comes with 15 levels of Angry Birds pre-loaded onto the phone, perfect for making the most of the touchscreen and 1GHz processor.
"Nokia is taking another interesting step forward in connecting consumers to the Internet, seeking to improve their experience through a new touch user-interface that is allowing the company to compete in new mass-market price bands. The mass-market is a competitive segment, but we believe Nokia's upgraded Asha portfolio has included an attractive package that can enable consumers to have lower running costs, taking advantage of things like its compressed browser and a long-life battery", says Neil Mawston, Executive Director of devices research at Strategy Analytics. "It is also interesting to see how Nokia is promoting its Asha strategy with global launches taking place in important high-growth markets such as Asia. Nokia resonates well there and the response from local consumers is likely to be positive".

Ford research selects Nokia Location Platform for innovation project

Chicago, IL, USA - Nokia today announced that Ford's research organization will use the Nokia Location Platform to advance innovation for smart and connected vehicles, as demonstrated by the Ford EVOS concept car.
Ford selected the Nokia Location Platform to leverage Nokia's high-quality global location content, including the industry leading NAVTEQ Map, as well as scaleable cloud services and APIs.  This complete solution offers a fast, easy and cost-effective path to create innovative and differentiated location products.
The Ford EVOS concept car showcases a future in which cloud services go beyond Internet access and traffic-enabled routing.  For example, Ford's concept car actually "learns" driver behavior to control, improve upon and personalize vehicle performance.  Another area of Ford's research is designed to optimize hybrid powertrain efficiency: the Nokia Location Platform could automatically regulate a car's powertrain as it travels through established or driver-specified "Green Zones".
"We are committed to providing compelling customized services to the automotive sector and customers like Ford," said Christof Hellmis, Vice President Map Platform in Nokia's Location & Commerce unit.  "We have consistently focused on innovation around location and navigation in the car.  This commitment enabled us to provide a global platform service which could truly enhance the customer and user experience.  It's exciting to see the Nokia Location Platform as an integral part of Ford's mission to revolutionize the connected car."
While the Ford EVOS is a concept car intended to show Ford's technology vision for the future and is not itself scheduled for production, it does give a glimpse of the technology being researched for future car models

Software solutions maker MediFox enlists Nokia Lumia for home care business in Germany

Espoo, Finland - MediFox GmbH, a leading provider of software solutions in Germany, has chosen Nokia Lumia smartphones for its CareMobile application, which revolutionizes the home care industry by increasing productivity, enabling better planning and use of personnel, and saving time with real-time data sharing and real-time accounting. MediFox attributed quality of the devices, the Windows Phone operating system and the Nokia Drive application, featuring voice guided turn-by-turn navigation, as primary reasons for selecting Lumia smartphones for the application.
MediFox's Product Manager, Mr Marc Schlottig, said that the company's device requirements were met by the attractive and intuitive design of the Lumia 800 and Lumia 710, and the price points at which they were available. Key Windows Phone features such as the fast user interface, Internet Explorer 9, Outlook Mobile and the Office Hub enabled MediFox to present the quality of the CareMobile app to home care companies.
CareMobile is an excellent example of how mobile phones can revolutionize home care. It shows nurses where their next patients are, provides a list of planned activities and a dynamic checklist, and makes it easy to send patients' vital-sign data directly to the main office. Instead of paper lists and a master ledger, everything is updated in real time and immediately available to relevant parties.
"Each day the nurses might visit completely different patients, whose treatment and medication needs may vary," Mr Schlottig said. "CareMobile on Lumia phones is a big advantage and makes many processes much easier. Also, the integrated navigation function of Nokia Drive with turn-by-turn directions makes it easy for nurses to find their patients without delay."
In addition to speeding up daily tasks and processes, CareMobile saves further time and resources by automating accounting and billing work - all the data is just a click away.
"The average increase in productivity is about 20 percent. If a care service has ten tours a day that serve ten patients each, saving just one minute per patient adds up to considerable cost and time savings each month. Each nurse's location is also pinpointed on a map, making it easier and more efficient to plan routes and use personnel more effectively," said Mr Schlottig. "It's important to know where your nurses are and what they're doing, especially if an emergency occurs," says Mr Schlottig.
"Android is not standardised enough for us," explained Mr Schlottig when the company evaluated different platforms before deciding to develop CareMobile for Windows Phone. "You have different display resolutions, different processor types, different amounts of memory and different operating system versions. Each new device would have to be tested for compatibility."
Citing the iPhone as too expensive, Mr Schlotting said, "Ideally each nurse should have their own device. When you're equipping a whole fleet of nurses, cost is a big factor."

Nokia and Virgin Atlantic partner to introduce wireless charging to Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse Lounges

Airline leads the way with new smartphone technology to help passengers recharge before a flight
Espoo, Finland and New York, NY - Nokia today announced a deal with Virgin Atlantic to offer wireless charging facilities at its London Heathrow Clubhouse for passengers who want to recharge their phones before a flight.
Stylish and colourful Nokia wireless charging plates will initially be introduced in the Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse at London Heathrow later this year. Nokia and Virgin Atlantic also plan to expand wireless charging to the JFK Clubhouse at a later date.
Nokia today announced in New York that its Windows Phone 8 flagship smartphone, the Nokia Lumia 920, would be its first smartphone with in-built wireless charging, while the new Nokia Lumia 820 benefits from wireless charging via a removable and exchangeable shell.
"Virgin Atlantic is putting passengers first by removing a major anxiety, particularly for business travellers - how to keep their phone charged throughout a long day," said Jo Harlow, Executive Vice President, Smart Devices, Nokia. "The Virgin deal is a first step in our plan to make wireless charging as ubiquitous as Wi-Fi is today."
Chris Rossi, Senior Vice President, Virgin Atlantic North America said: "Our Upper Class passengers choose Virgin Atlantic because they understand that we aim to deliver a memorable experience every time that they fly with us. We constantly look for ways to enhance their overall experience through partnering with companies such as Nokia to let them experience new technologies in our clubhouses. Our passengers will be able to wirelessly charge their phone while catching up on email, sipping a cocktail or enjoying a massage in our clubhouse spa!"
Wireless charging provides a convenient way to top-up a phone while relaxing in the lounge so that phones can be used for listening to music, playing games or watching movies during the flight.
Nokia is part of the Wireless Power Consortium, an organization that supports the Qi wireless charging standard. This group is comprised of a number of operators, service providers, component suppliers and consumer electronics companies that have pledged their support to Qi and are working together to build an infrastructure ecosystem that will make it possible to charge wirelessly throughout the day. The Nokia wireless charging plates are able to charge any smartphone with wireless charging capabilities based on the Qi standard.
Nokia will be staging wireless charging customer experience demonstrations at London Heathrow Clubhouses from November 1, 2012 to January 31, 2013. Nokia staff will be on hand to showcase the new Nokia Windows Phone range and accessories to the VIP lounge visitors.
