Orange introduces the ‘Phone Guards’ in the latest Gold Spot cinema advertising
Following the popular ‘Phone Break’ Gold Spot cinema advert, Orange released a fun follow-up that will be shown on big screens across the country. This latest Gold Spot advert sees the return of the fictitious ‘Movie News’ team to a movie theatre in the United States, where they meet and interview the Orange Phone Guards, who take their jobs as guardians of entertainment very seriously.
The tongue in cheek instalment, created by Fallon, focuses on the hilarious and over-enthusiastic measures taken by the ‘Talk and Text Enforcers’ to ensure that mobile phones do not ruin the cinema experience. The Gold Spot shows Orange Phone Guards confiscating audience members’ handsets, and screening them in scanners, ahead of the movie. The Orange Phone Guards state that they are ‘guardians of entertainment’ and use Orange sniffer dogs as a ‘canine strikeforce’ to uncover concealed mobile phones.
Spencer McHugh, Director of Brand for Orange UK said: “To date the success and popularity of our Gold Spot ads has been built on entertaining movie-goers while encouraging them to wonder what is coming next. So we’re really excited to share the latest Gold Spot creative with UK cinema goers, and hope that it encourages them to switch off their phones to make the most of the movie”.
The full Orange Phone Guard commercial will be screened in UK cinemas from Friday 24th February 2012, in digital cinemas, and in others from 2nd March 2012.

Orange To Launch Quick Tap ‘Treats’
Orange partners with EAT. to further the Quick Tap initiative in the UK
All Orange customers with NFC enabled handsets to benefit from a free EAT. treat everyday from early March
Available nationwide, the offer will run until Summer 2012
Orange unveiled ‘Quick Tap Treats’ - the UK’s first mobile contactless retail reward scheme, in partnership with the EAT. restaurant chain. Quick Tap Treats will allow all Orange customers with NFC enabled handsets to simply tap their mobile phone on specially designed posters at any of the 110 EAT. outlets* so they can receive a free treat each day - from a free baguette or piece of fruit, to a free coffee.
Building on the success of the first contactless mobile payments service launched last year, the next phase of Quick Tap (the umbrella name used for Orange’s UK NFC services), sees all Orange customers with NFC handsets able to use their phones for the new Quick Tap reward programme, Quick Tap Treats.
From launch, these Quick Tap customers will be eligible to receive one on the following ‘treat’ reward options everyday. New treats will be added over time:
Quick Tap Treats
Free Ham & Cheese Baguette
Free Small Coffee
Free Porridge
Free Fruit
Hot Drinks Upgrade (small to big)
Free Mash & Gravy with any Pie purchase
Breakfast Bacon upgrade (small to big)
Soup Upgrade (small to big)
Quick Tap Treats works using NFC tags which will feature on specially designed posters in EAT. stores nationwide. Customers simply need to tap their Quick Tap phone on the poster to play a game in which they will win and be able to immediately redeem guaranteed treats from within the EAT. store. The game will also be available as a Quick Tap Treats App downloadable from Orange World, as well as BlackBerry, Android and OVI apps stores, providing improved game playing experience.
As a result of the new initiative, approximately 200,000 Orange UK customers will be able to access the new Quick Tap rewards programme from launch, with this number set to rapidly grow as further NFC enabled handsets are ranged.
All Orange customers with Quick Tap (NFC) handsets will receive an SMS informing them about the Quick Tap Treats rewards programme, and a marketing campaign supporting the initiative will also commence in early March. If any customer is unsure whether they have an eligible Quick Tap handset, they can contact Orange customer services, who will be able to advise them or they will be able to visit a special section of the Orange website from launch.
Commenting on the announcement, Pippa Dunn, Chief Marketing Officer, Orange UK, said: “Last year we started a whole new movement in the way consumers make payments on the high street, and with Quick Tap Treats, we're continuing this with a new and innovative way for our customers to receive rewards for their loyalty. So whether it’s a free coffee on the way into work, or a free baguette at lunchtime, you really do get more with you mobile on Orange".
For further information, and full terms and conditions on Quick Tap Treats will be on www.orange.co.uk for launch.

SCOTTISH PUBLIC SECTOR to MAKE SAVINGS of £1.6 MILLION by SELECTING ORANGE
Orange announces that it has been selected by the Scottish Government to provide voice, data and mobile broadband services to 10 bodies within the Scottish public sector.
The bodies benefiting from the deal also include several universities and is estimated to save the Government £1.6 million over the next four years. As a result of the selection, Orange has created a dedicated public sector team to be based in its Greenock call centre. In addition to being responsible for customer service, the team will be responsible for the management of the implementation, as well as monitoring network performance on an on-going basis.
Orange was selected following a two stage procurement process which included an invitation to tender and a competitive e-Auction. The Scottish Government’s selection process was extremely rigorous to ensure they chose the mobility organisation that would deliver the greatest value and service. This is in the context of an environment where cost transparency alongside excellent local services are also critical. Vodafone was the incumbent mobile provider for the majority of the bodies.
Kate Jack, Head of Public Sector and Health, Orange, said, “We are delighted to be working with the Scottish Government. Our main focus is to ensure that all users will benefit from a wide range of mobility products and services, supported by both a high quality of service and network coverage regardless of their location. By being able to utilise both the Orange and T-Mobile networks, we can promise all users that they will be able to access the biggest mobile network in the UK. In addition, we understand that creating efficiency savings in the public sector will continue to be under tough scrutiny over the next few years. However, what is clear is that there is the opportunity for the Scottish Government to make these changes through shifting the IT which the organisation uses.”
The procurement process started on the 1st September 2011 and the winner of the e-Auction was decided on 28th September 2011. 50 per cent of users will start using the service shortly. The remaining users will switch over to Orange as legacy contracts end. This is expected to be completed by mid 2013.

T-Mobile Poland, Orange Poland to improve network coverage, offer better quality services through radio network sharing
Nokia Siemens Networks to consolidate and upgrade operators’ GSM and HSPA radio networks, preparing for evolution to LTE
T-Mobile Poland and Orange Poland have selected Nokia Siemens Networks as one of the vendors to deploy and upgrade their GSM and HSPA networks, enable radio network sharing and prepare them for Long Term Evolution (LTE). Currently, Polska Telefonia Cyfrowa operates the T-Mobile network, while PTK Centertel runs the Orange network, and these will be managed by a joint venture called NetWorkS! Nokia Siemens Networks will provide its Single RAN (radio access network) platform and related services to improve the network performance, reduce costs and make the shared network LTE-ready.
“We are focused on delivering high-quality services and introducing the latest technologies in Poland. The network upgrade and development will significantly improve the performance and quality of the shared infrastructure, which will be the largest in the country, to provide an optimum end-user experience. In Nokia Siemens Networks, we have a partner with a global experience of network sharing deployments and this will ensure a speedy roll-out for us,” said Milan Zika, director of the technology and networks division and Board Member, T-Mobile Poland.
“The network consolidation and upgrade is an important part of what we aim to deliver with the radio network sharing. It will result in higher network availability and improve the quality of services for Orange and T-Mobile subscribers in Poland. At the same time, it will enable better use of network resources and make new investments optimal,” said Maciej Witucki, chief executive officer of the Telekomunikacja Polska Group, which owns PTK Centertel.
Under the contract, Nokia Siemens Networks’ Single RAN platform, based on the compact, energy efficient Flexi Multiradio Base Stations, will replace a large part of the existing GSM and HSPA radio access sites. The platform will also allow a percentage of the existing sites to be re-used, thereby lowering costs while protecting investments. In future, it will enable a smooth transition to LTE through a simple software upgrade.
Nokia Siemens Networks’ NetAct network management system will ensure a single view of all the different network technologies, consolidating network monitoring, management and optimization within this shared environment. The contract also includes a range of services, including construction works and the full set of care services comprising hardware services, proactive software services and 3,000 hours of training as part of competence development services.
“So far, no operator has undertaken a multiradio RAN sharing initiative of such a broad scope and we are excited to be part of this implementation. Our Single RAN platform will not only enable the operators to adopt new technologies at a rapid pace and use different spectrum bands efficiently but also reduce the cost of delivering high-quality voice and mobile broadband to end-users,” said Thorsten Robrecht, head of Network Systems Product Management at Nokia Siemens Networks.
